The Northumberland Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority have been running a lobster v-notching scheme since 2000, through which, a total of 18,274 female lobsters have been v-notched and released into the district. In 2015, a further 1028 lobsters were purchased, v-notched and released into the district by NIFCA.

Defra are inviting views on recovery measures that UK Fisheries Administrations propose to introduce during March 2016 in order to prevent further diminution of the Nephrops stock in the Farn Deeps (Functional Unit 6 in the North Sea).  The options that are being considered for a package of technical measures to deliver recovery of the stock are set out  in the documents below.

Defra are welcoming responses to this consultation no later than Friday 19th February 2016.

Please see the links below in respect of two prosecutions brought by NIFCA and heard at North Tyneside Magistrates Court on 22nd January. Both cases resulted in financial penalties for the defendant, a recognition of the importance of complying with NIFCA byelaws and regulations to conserve the marine environment and protect fish stocks.

The next NIFCA quarterly meeting will be held on Monday 25th January at 2pm at 8 Ennerdale Road, Blyth, NE24 4RT.

Amongst items for discussion will be the new designation of the Coquet to St Mary’s MCZ and the NIFCA pot limitation byelaw.
