Northumberland IFCA Summer Placement 2024

Northumberland IFCA (NIFCA) is offering an exciting opportunity for a paid placement during summer 2024. The successful applicant will work on the delivery of individual projects directly informing inshore fisheries management as part of NIFCA’s ongoing duties.

The placement will last for a period of four to six weeks between July and September, with an approximate commitment of 20 hours per working week. Northumberland IFCA will provide training opportunities in key areas to enable the volunteers to develop their experience and understanding of inshore fisheries management.

Individual project topics will be determined closer to the time of the placement.

As well as working on individual projects, you will have the opportunity to assist with additional environmental survey work and other aspects of our work.

Pay and Benefits

The successful applicant will receive an hourly rate of £12, in line with the Real Living Wage recommendations (https://www.livingwage.org.uk/what-real-living-wage). They will also be entitled to reasonable out-of-pocket expenses in accordance with the NIFCA Internship Agreement.

Experienceknowledge & skills

Essential Desirable
2 years (minimum) completed in undergraduate degree (in relevant subject area) STCW-95 Sea Survival Course

 

Proficient in the use of MS office Sea-going experience
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written Marine species ID skills
Ability to process and analyse comprehensive datasets and produce concise scientific reports Experience using GIS (e.g. ArcGIS) and R statistical software.
Teamwork & collaboration, good interpersonal skills
Ability to travel to NIFCA office in Blyth daily.
