As part of annual monitoring of blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) populations throughout the district, NIFCA is delighted to publish the findings of the 2020 surveys. These reports focus on the Blyth Estuary, Fenham Flats and Holy Island Sands mussel beds.

On the 15th of July 2020 Inshore Fisheries Officers seized fishing gear from Newbiggin by the Sea under section 264 of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009.

The gear was seized in contravention of NIFCA Byelaw 4.
