NIFCA is fuelled by a blend of local support and national investment, ensuring every penny is strategically directed toward the protection and prosperity of the region's vibrant coastline.
Government funding
NIFCA’s vital fisheries management is sustained through a long-standing partnership between local and national government. Our primary support comes from our constituent local authorities, Northumberland County Council and North Tyneside, whose contributions reflect a shared dedication to the economic and environmental health of the NIFCA district.
This local investment is paired with national funding from Defra, enabling us to fulfil our duties as part of a wider network of coastal protection. This integrated approach means we have the resources to maintain a professional presence on the water, providing the scientific expertise and oversight needed to manage our inshore waters effectively.
Building resilience
We pride ourselves on an innovative outlook, looking beyond traditional budgets to build a more resilient Authority. Through innovative partnerships and the professional hire of our specialised vessels and equipment, we generate additional income that is reinvested into the long-term health of our coastline.
These funds, alongside revenue from permits, support our Renewals Fund and general reserves, giving us the financial agility to support fisheries communities in all their forms. By maximising the value of every asset, we ensure NIFCA remains a modern, forward-thinking Authority.
Responsibility & clarity
We are committed to the responsible use of all funds, which is highlighted in our annual plans and reports and can be found in our Resource Hub. Through quarterly reviews and a strict focus on cost control, we make sure every resource is managed with total transparency. By growing our Renewals Fund and maintaining strong reserves, we are securing NIFCA’s ability to protect the region’s waters for years to come.
